Windows:Add Remove Programs

Add/Remove programs has been in Microsoft Windows since Windows 95 and is the defacto way for uninstalling applications from Windows. Applications installed in Windows will automatically add themselves to this list.

Accessing Add/Remove Programs

From the Control Panel

  1. Open the Control Panel from the Start Menu
  2. Double click Add/Remove programs

From the run prompt

  1. Open the run prompt
  2. type appwiz.cpl
  3. Press enter

Changes in XP/2000

The look of this utility changed in Windows XP/2000 and there were also some additional features added:

  • The size of the application is listed
  • Clicking on the application in the list provides more detail including:
    • When the application was last used
    • How often the application is used (rarely, frequently, occasionally)

Changes in Vista

In Windows Vista, Add / Remove Programs has been renamed to Programs and Features
