The Windows task manager displays a list of processes, applications and displays other system specific details (processor usage, memory usage etc). It has changed a lot since Windows 95 where it displayed just a list of applications.

Processor usage is displayed as a small icon in the system tray.

The performance tab gives instant access to details about current processor and RAM usage. The processor graph shows a history of processor usage.
