Synchronising issues (XP)
From Jonsdocswiki
Windows file synchronisation is the process whereby a person's computer stores a copy of files offline for editing. This is particularly useful for laptop users who likely don't always work when connected to the network. Files are stored in the client side cache.

Problems
Access Denied error on sync
Symptoms
Users get access is denied when trying to synchronise their files.
Fix
Grant the user read permissions (special permissions need to say traverse folder, list folder / read data and read attributes) to the top level of the share only (set see setting advanced permissions in Windows). This may be easier done by granting this to a group. For example, if a staff member's home area is \\server\home\bilbo the user "bilbo" will need to have read only access to the folder \\server\home - this is because Windows looks at the top level of the share to obtain the user's permissions.

Deleted folder conflict (offline files)
Symptoms
Taken from Microsoft KB 839530
When you use your Windows XP-based computer to log on to your network, Synchronizing starts, and then you may receive a message that is similar to the following message:
\\Network_Share\Share\Shared_Folder\Shared_Folder\Shared_Folder
You have a version of this folder available for offline use, however the network version has been deleted.
Fix
Obtain the hotfix as described at Microsoft KB 839530

Parameter Incorrect
Symptoms
When synchronising, users receive an error explaining Unable to merge offline changes on \\server\folder. The parameter is incorrect.
The user may not be able to access files that were changed offline when connected to the corporate network.
Fix
- Disconnect the workstation / laptop from the network - this should cause the "missing" files to appear.
- Copy the files that have not synchronised (or all of them if you're unsure) to another location.
- Follow the instruction on how to Re-initialise the Client Side Cache
- Copy the files back to the synchronising location.
- Manually synchronise - the problem should be resolved.
