Sometimes, a Word document containing the Greek character theta (θ) can cause problems printing. In one case, a document containing the Greek letter gave the following printing problems:

• The θ itself wouldn't print.
• Text immediately after the θ did not print.

The problem here appears to be down to the character set in use on the computer. When the problem was observed the character set was English (United States). To fix this the character set was changed to English (United Kingdom) via control panel.

Observation Environment

• Windows XP
  • Character set of English (United States)
• Microsoft Word 2007
• Canon LBP3360 printer (with the latest driver)
