Phoenix BIOS ships on a number of laptops including the Acer Extensa, Travelmate and Aspire lines and Toshiba Satellite Pros.

PhoenixBIOS and SATA Harddisks

When installing Windows XP on a laptop with PhoenixBIOS and a SATA hard disk you may find that no hard disk is detected by XP Setup. There may not be an "F6 installation driver" available so here's the fix to make the drive appear:

  1. Enter the BIOS
  2. Go to the advanced page
  3. Find SATA Controller mode and change this to Compatibility (it is likely set to AHCI)
  4. You may find it under Main page SATA Mode. Select IDE Mode
