An example of panel death
When an LCD or TFT screen nears the end of its life, varying things can happen. The bottom line is it will stop performing as it once did. There are varying forms of "Panel death" and some issues can just be faults - dead or frozen pixels should not be considered a warning the panel is going to die out altogether in the near future but misplaced lines of colour should be.
When a panel does die out, it's time to change it!
Recognised symptoms
- Lines down the screen (varying colours)
- A single line of colour down the screen (often vertically)
- Panel displays nothing
- Panel "blacks out" whereby there is clearly power but all that can be seen is lit black
