From Jonsdocswiki

The default Monobook skin uses the arial font. Should arial.ttf go missing from your computer you will find the browser attempts to match to the closest font it can.

• Firefox used Arial bold (all text everywhere was emboldened)
• IE7 used Arial italic (all text everywhere was italicised)

Fix

Simply re-install the Arial true type font.
